We are big fans of Hoopes Vineyards at ONE 53 and their flagship cabernet, Liparita. They seek out the best fruit from within the 15 different sub-appellations of Napa Valley. Liparita was one of the first “brands” in Napa even before brands were part of the lexicon of winemaking and was the first wine from California to win a gold medal at the Paris Exposition. They believe in quality, not quantity, and that a bottle of incredible Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon should be attainable by all who share the passion and recognize value.
Planted in 1983, Klipsun Vineyard is one of the oldest and most famous vineyards on Red Mountain, the smallest AVA in Washington State. The wine has dark ruby color and aromas of ripe black cherries, licorice, mint, and tobacco. It is dense and powerful on the palate with intense earth and tannin structure combined with concentrated black fruits, cured meat, and earth characteristics.
Our “village wine” is a blend of vineyards from the southwestern part of Sta. Rita Hills including sections from Rita’s Crown, Bentrock, and Wenzlau. The Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay is vinified with the same level of detail as our single vineyard wines and showcases both the splendor of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation and the piercing focus of the 2013 vintage. The wine has aromas of meyer lemon peel and pith with hints of raw ginger, honey, and green apple all under a cloak of crushed white rock. The texture offers a restrained fleshiness on the mid-palate with a focused and bright saline finish.
Sandhi represents a union essential to the production of wine: the collaboration between man, earth, and vine.
Sandhi is a small production California winery focusing on select vineyards from the Sta. Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County and was founded in 2010 by Rajat Parr, the wine director for Michael Mina Restaurants, Charles Banks, the former owner ofJonata and Screaming Eagle, and esteemed winemaker, Sashi Moorman.
Each year, George strives for a Cabernet with elegance and balance, and one which reflects the character of the vineyard and the vintage. This is the last of our 2005 wines to release, and it follows the tendency of the wines from this vintage to have a lush, deep, forward palate and dense aromatics. This young wine shows violets, licorice, chocolate, cigar box and cassis on the nose, with a full, velvety texture, dusty fine-grained tannins and a firm finish. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Drinkable now, with potential to cellar for 10+ years.
Occidental is a new project dedicated to Pinot Noir from longstanding, cult status winemaker Steve Kistler and his partner, Mark Bixler. Maybe new isn’t exactly the right word to use here since the project took root awhile back with the acquisition and planting of two vineyards in far western Sonoma County, but it is the first time that Occidental’s Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir will be available in the market. Bear in mind that Kistler Vineyards wines are sold exclusively through their mailing list and to a few select A-list restaurants. Given this, it is with added excitement and great enthusiasm that we debut the Occidental 2012 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir.
